In their most recent match against the Melbourne Renegades, the Melbourne Stars won for the third time by a margin of only four runs. With the help of Alice Capsey (23) and Annabel Sutherland (24), captain Meg Lanning put on a brilliant 67 not out (49) innings, bringing her side to a respectable total of
144 runs. Bowling-wise, Annabel was excellent, taking four wickets in her four overs and giving up just 22 runs. With a wicket each, Kim Garth and Sophie Day also helped to restrict the opponents to 140/6.
Conversely, in their last game, the Hobart Hurricanes lost to Brisbane by 53 runs. Heather Graham and Shabnim Ismail both claimed two wickets in the opening innings, and with the help of other bowlers, they held Brisbane Heat to 184/5. The Hurricanes’ hitters, however, had trouble, and they were out of the game after 17.3 overs at 131.
